Meet the Scientist, Kelly Fellows Maxwell, PhD – Assistant Director, Pharmacometrics

Tell us about your background:
I started off with my PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Buffalo in June 2018 and began working at Cognigen right after that. Started off as a Clinical Data Scientist & after taking a few more initiatives outside of my job responsibilities over the years now I work on population based PKPD, exposure-response models & simulations.

Tell us how you chose this field in college?
My dad worked for a Contract Research Organization, and he immensely influenced my career, as did the President of Cognigen Division, Jill Fiedler-Kelly who taught a modeling course at my alma mater the University of Buffalo.

I love how networking takes you so many places and on so many journeys. If you went back in time, what advice would you give to your younger self, if you were to change something or do something different?
Think of every stressful situation as something to learn from, build relationships, don’t be shy to ask for help – all of this if you practice over time, it will pay dividends.

Yes, relying on your friends and being in the present, in the moment and not worrying about the future is amazing advice. Now that you are at Cognigen, a division of Simulations Plus and you are in the research environment every day, what is the one thing that you love the most?
Cognigen is a friendly, collegial, collaborative atmosphere where one can advance their own career while helping the organization overall.
